Bonnie Bernstein, who most recently worked as the lead
sideline reporter for CBS Sports’ NFL and NCAA Men’s
Basketball Championship coverage, has joined ABC and ESPN (where
she worked from 1995-98). The 15-year broadcasting veteran will
serve as a sideline reporter on ESPN’s Sunday Night
Baseball and ABC’s weekly college football telecasts.
Bernstein will begin with ESPN July 2 at 8 p.m. ET when she
joins the Sunday Night Baseball team of Jon Miller, Joe
Morgan and Peter Gammons on the N.Y. Mets at N.Y. Yankees
inter-league showdown. She will work with commentator Brad
Nessler and analysts Bob Griese and Paul Maguire for weekly ABC
college football telecasts this fall. Bernstein will also fill
in as host on various ESPN programs and will contribute features
to ESPN platforms.
"I feel like I hit the jackpot," said Bernstein.
"I get the best seat in the house for baseball and college
football, and also have the opportunity to grow as a host and
in-depth reporter. I’ve always strived to be multi-dimensional
and there is no place better to do that than right here."
Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, remote and
studio production, added, "With her skills, knowledge and
sports reporting experience, Bonnie will be a tremendous asset
for several ESPN and ABC platforms."
Bernstein worked for CBS Sports from 1998 to 2005 where she
held a broad range of responsibilities. In addition to covering
the NFL and college basketball, she contributed features for The
NFL Today, hosted the Championships of the NCAA
anthology series and NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championship, and
anchored SportsDesk and At the Half. She also
covered track and field, figure skating and U.S. Open tennis
championships.
Bernstein has worked in radio since 2001 when she joined the
NFL broadcast team for CBS/Westwood One. She served as a
sideline reporter for its coverage of Monday Night Football,
the Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl. This season, she will work NFL
Thursday night games and post-season.
This past spring, Bernstein made broadcast history during the
NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship as the host of the Sprint
Tournament Center, the first sports studio show created
exclusively for wireless phones.
From 1995-98, Bernstein served as a SportsCenter correspondent
for ESPN covering events such as the NBA Finals, Major League
Baseball playoffs and the NCAA Women’s Basketball
Championship. While at ESPN, she also contributed to College
GameDay and NFL studio shows.
Prior to joining ESPN, Bernstein was a weekday sports anchor
for KRNV-TV in Reno, Nev. (1993-95). She was the weekend news
anchor at WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Md. (1993), and the sports and
news director for WXJN radio in Lewes, Del. (1992-93).
Bernstein graduated magna cum laude from the University of
Maryland’s prestigious Merrill College of Journalism. She
currently serves on the College’s Board of Directors. While at
Maryland, Bernstein was a four-time Academic All-America
selection (gymnastics) and received the Thomas M. Fields Award
for academic and athletic excellence.
